0-3 Months
- • Startles at loud sounds.
- • Quiets or smiles when spoken to.
- • Seems to recognize your voice.
4-6 Months
- • Moves eyes in direction of sounds.
- • Pays attention to music/toys.
- • Babbles with sounds like "pa", "ba".
7-12 Months
- • Turns to look when you call their name.
- • Understands "no" or "bye-bye".
- • Imitates speech sounds.
⚠ Red Flags
If your child:
- • Doesn't react to loud noises.
- • Doesn't say single words by 1 year.
- • Has frequent ear infections.
The Golden Rule: 1 - 3 - 6

Month 1
Screening by 1 month of age (usually at birth).

Month 3
Diagnosis confirmation by 3 months if screening failed.

Month 6
Intervention (aids/therapy) started by 6 months.
Children treated before 6 months often develop language skills
comparable to their hearing peers.
